MODALIDADES DE NARRATIVAS IMAGÉTICAS

Resumo

Esse artigo aborda modalidades de usos de antropologia visual, que referem a quatro pesquisas bastante diversas entre si. Nosso argumento é que os quatro casos apresentam um vínculo entre si que indicam uma linhagem da fotoetnografia, trabalhos onde a imagem é tomada como central na narrativa etnográfica. Inicialmente, apresentamos um relato histórico da noção de fotoetnografia, localizando antecedentes e trazendo o contexto da própria produção do termo cunhado por Achutti. Apresentamos o processo do trabalho de Achutti que constituiu e demarcou essa estratégia metodológica e textual do uso da imagem. Depois, abordamos outros dois casos de pesquisas etnográficos, anteriores ao trabalho de Achutti, onde há um importante uso e reflexão a respeito da fotografia que ajudaram a preparar o caminho para, mais tarde, na dissertação de mestrado de Achutti, em 1996, propor a fotoetnografia como tal. Em conclusão, o caso final que aqui apresentamos, trata de um trabalho etnográfico atual, desenvolvido junto a um grupo da etnia Warao, onde a comunicação, dado o presente contexto da pandemia de Covid-19, tem se dado fundamentalmente através de imagens digitais em plataformas de redes sociais virtuais. Essa experiência nos leva a pensar em novas modalidades da fotoetnografia.

Abstract: This article discusses modalities of uses of visual anthropology presenting four distinct ethnographic works. Our argument is that all four cases are linked indicating a lineage of photo- ethnography: in all of them, the image is taken as central part of their ethnographic texts. Initially, we present a historical account of the notion of photo-ethnography, locating its antecedents and bringing up the context of the making of photo-ethnography, a term coined by Achutti in 1996. We present the process of Achutti's ethnographic work that constituted this methodological and textual strategy of image use. After that, we present two other cases, prior to Achutti’s work, where there is an important use and discussion on photography that helped pave the way for, later, in Achutti's master's dissertation, in 1996, to propose the photo-ethnography as such. In conclusion, the final case presented here, is our current research among the Warao, a migrant indigenous group that, given the present-day Covid-19 pandemic context, most of the interviews, observations and communications have been taking place mainly with digital images through virtual social network platforms. This experience led us to think about new modalities of photo-ethnography.
